At Leo Cussen
Madeleine leads Leo Cussen’s Practical Legal Training program nationally.
Her role includes leadership of Leo’s team of mentors, support for PLT students both onsite and online, design, development and oversight of Leo Cussen’s PLT programs, as well as management of regulatory and operational aspects.
Madeleine is a key member of Leo Cussen’s Executive Leadership Team, who work together to ensure that Leo Cussen continues to innovatively meet the education needs of the legal profession.
Before Leo Cussen
Madeleine completed her law degree at the University of Melbourne, before undertaking articles at Minter Ellison in Melbourne.
After admission to the legal profession in 1997, Madeleine practised locally and internationally, predominantly in dispute resolution and litigation. Her experience includes acting for national and international corporate clients in a large firm setting, as well as SMEs and personal clients in mid-tier and suburban practise.
From 2004-2011, Madeleine taught at Deakin University Law School. Her responsibilities included lectures and tutorials in Contract, Commercial Law, Ethics and Business Law. She also managed the delivery of the then Practical Skills program.
In 2011, Madeleine joined The College of Law as a lecturer, teaching in PLT courses, including the College’s large firm co-operative programs.
In 2016 Madeleine took up the role of Executive Director, Victoria at The College of Law. In this role she led the College’s Victorian PLT and CPD operations.
Madeleine joined Leo Cussen as the Director of Practical Legal Training in 2020.

Madeleine is a member of the Wellness Network for Law, and is deeply committed to contributing to improving mental health outcomes for the legal profession.

Achievements/Special Interests
In 2017 Madeleine was awarded the Top Scholar award by Monash University for being the top graduating student in her Master of Education cohort
In 2013 Madeleine was awarded The College Award by The College of Law
In 2011 Madeleine was awarded a Commendation for Excellence in Teaching by Deakin University
Outside Leo Cussen
Madeleine is a dual citizen of France and Australia. She is a self-confessed Francophile, who enjoys travel, film and theatre, as well as Melbourne’s many festivals and cultural experiences. Madeleine is mum to three spirited daughters, who keep her on her toes!
