BEFORE LEO CUSSEN:

Before joining Leo Cussen, Sarah worked in private practice specialising in banking and finance, with a particular focus on large scale asset finance for aircraft, rolling stock and shipping.

Sarah has extensive global experience, having lived in Frankfurt, Madrid and Washington DC whilst working with international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

With Freshfields, Sarah led international finance transactions involving some of the world’s leading airlines, aircraft leasing companies, international banks and investment houses.

Sarah has also worked as a commercial lawyer in a top tier firm in Australia, with a focus on government projects and finance transactions. Sarah also worked in-house with Bendigo & Adelaide Bank early in her career, building a working understanding of Treasury funding deals and wholesale finance.

Sarah has a long-standing interest in teaching, and has been actively involved in legal education throughout her career in academic spheres (including for the University of Adelaide and Law Society of South Australia), and also working extensively with junior practitioners in her respective firms.

Achievements/Special Interests

Sarah has a strong interest in pro bono work, and particularly applying her commercial and financial legal skills to assisting not-for-profit organisations. For example, Sarah guided the Marymead Foundation through a complex merger with the Autism Asperger’s Association in NSW.

Outside of work, Sarah loves spending time with her husband, two girls and labrador.

While living in the US in recent years, Sarah was actively involved with the Guide Dog Foundation – training puppies across the DC, Maryland and Virginia area.

Sarah’s other interests include performing arts and musical theatre, art and design, travel (different cultures, languages, food and wine) and spending time outdoors (particularly hiking, gardening and swimming).
