At Leo Cussen 

George is Leo Cussen’s Legal Counsel and Company Secretary. In this role George oversees the legal and regulatory compliance function both at an organisational and Board level.  

George joined Leo Cussen in 2012 and until his appointment as Legal Counsel in January 2024, he was a Mentor in the Practical Legal Training Course, working with trainees predominantly in the online course. During this period George held several leadership roles and was involved in developing course materials for the Banking and Finance elective, as well as redeveloping critical course content for the Commercial & Corporate and Property Practice Areas, in line with Leo Cussen’s Learning Transformation Project.  

 

Before Leo Cussen 

George was admitted to the legal profession in 2001 and has extensive and varied experience as a lawyer in the areas of general commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, and banking and finance. He has worked at both small firms and large national firms, including working in industry roles as legal counsel for corporate organisations. George has a broad range of commercial experience, ranging from retail clients to the large corporate institutions. 

 

Memberships 

George is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 

 

Achievements/Special Interests 

George has a particular interest in practical legal education and its development, especially in light of the challenges of technological advancement and disruption. 

He has a keen and particular interest in world history, conflict resolution, international relations, learning European languages and literature.
