At Leo Cussen

Elias teaches with an emphasis on practical litigation skills, commercial awareness across relevant practice areas, and the day‑to‑day realities of legal practice. He also guest lectures at universities on Civil Procedure, Advocacy, and Evidence. His teaching draws on current matters and contemporary developments in commercial litigation and insolvency through his work at Rizks and Insolvit.

 

Before Leo Cussen

Elias holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Accounting, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, and the ARITA Advanced Certification in Insolvency. He is also a current member of the Insolvency Law Committee of the Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. His combined legal and accounting background supports his work across commercial disputes and financially complex matters.

 

Memberships

Elias Rizk is a commercial litigation and insolvency lawyer and a member of the teaching staff at Leo Cussen Centre for Law. He has experience acting in complex commercial disputes and also acts in advisory matters across a range of industries.

Elias is the Principal of Rizks, a commercial practice acting for large corporates both local and international operating in Australia (including recognised brands), insolvency practitioners, professional services firms, and directors among others. His work includes commercial litigation, shareholder and partnership disputes, corporations law matters, directors’ duties, governance issues, and regulatory matters involving significant financial or operational risk and matters involving competing stakeholder interests. He appears in the County Court of Victoria, Supreme Court of Victoria, and Federal Court of Australia.

 

Achievements/Special Interests

His insolvency practice is conducted through Insolvit, where he acts for insolvency practitioners on investigatory and recovery matters and assists directors and stakeholders responding to insolvency‑related claims and pressures. His work includes examinations, recovery actions, and disputes involving financial distress and governance concerns. He is regularly engaged in matters involving liquidators, administrators, receivers, and bankruptcy trustees, often at an early stage to assess risk and determine a path forward.
