Liz Chase is a legal entrepreneur, connector, and innovation leader with extensive experience in the commercial and property law industry. Liz has a passion for legal innovation and the business of law, specifically in optimising the delivery of legal services through the incorporation of human cantered design and other methodologies to create the best experience for clients and lawyers.

She is the co-founder of Law DesignED, a consultancy that helps law firms use human-centred design to innovate and create product/market fit, providing clients with the tools to identify and address prevalent process and system gaps/inefficiencies with the ultimate goal of making the legal context more usable, useful and engaging for all those involved.

Liz Chase is the Head of Innovation and User Experience at Leo Cussen, where she leads the development and delivery of cutting-edge practical legal training and continuing professional development programs. Liz has a passion for legal innovation and the business of law, specifically in optimising the delivery of legal services through the incorporation of human-centred design and other methodologies to create the best experience for clients and lawyers. Before joining Leo Cussen Centre for Law as the Head of Innovation and User Experience, Liz was a Partner at a midsized national law firm, where she specialised in working with property developers, large corporations, SMEs, landlords, and tenants, private investors, entrepreneurs, and family groups. She also founded and ran her own legal practice, Chase Legal for several years, which she built on the philosophy of providing accessible legal services with a focus on down-to-earth interactions.

Overall, Liz is an authentic, creative, and focused individual who lives by the motto that innovation and disruption must be applied usefully. Her passion for legal innovation and her ability to think outside the box have earned her recognition as a finalist for the Lawyers Weekly Women in Law.

 

Before Leo Cussen

Liz was a partner at Madison Marcus Law Firm specialising in Commercial and Property Law. Her practice included working with property developers, large corporations, SME’s, landlords and tenants, private investors, entrepreneurs and family groups.

Prior to joining Madison Marcus, Liz was Director and Principal of her own successful legal practice which she built on the philosophy that services can be provided in a down to earth and accessible manner.

Liz leads from the heart and takes great interest in the development of her team and has a knack for identifying and nurturing the unique strengths of the individuals she works with.

 

Memberships

Innovator of the Year 2022. She is a committee member for the Women of Australian Legal Tech Association (WALTA), and active member of a range of industry groups including the Liquid Legal Institute and Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC)

 

Achievements/Special Interests

In addition to the practice of law, Liz has a strong interest in legal innovation and the business of law. Liz is passionate about optimising the delivery of legal services through the incorporation of design thinking and other methodologies to create the best experience for clients and lawyers alike. During her time at Madison Marcus Liz facilitated a successful merger between the Sydney office and a Melbourne based firm.
