Before Leo Cussen

Emily has practised as a criminal law solicitor-advocate for fifteen years and has appeared in all Victorian courts in criminal trials and appeals; summary criminal proceedings; and prosecuting and defending intervention order and child protection matters. In private practice and the community legal sector, Emily represents accused with multiple and complex needs and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, with particular experience in the representation of Indigenous accused. Emily has most recently been responsible for growing and managing state-wide criminal legal practices focused on holistic service provision; statutory and ethical compliance; and career development for volunteers, PLT students, and junior lawyers.

Emily has volunteered at a number of community legal organisations throughout her career. As a government policy officer, her interest in the power of grass-roots initiatives resulted in an award-winning facilitated community partnership program.
